2 pilot sites in Valencia and Thessaloniki to demonstrate the value chains based on e-methanol as fuel for shipping
Goal of the Horizon Europe project POSEIDON
The POSEIDON project aims to facilitate the use of e-methanol in shipping by demonstrating innovative solutions along the renewable fuel value chain.
Main innovations and project results
- New technical and economic pathways to use biogenic and unavoidable industrial CO2 sources as feedstock for e-methanol production
- Scaled up Power-to-Methanol pilot plant to produce up to 750 liters of e-methanol per day out of CO2, H2 and renewable power
- Qualified 2 and 4-strokes internal combustion engines able to run on e-methanol
- Newly developed modeling tool to evaluate various e-methanol based value chains and assess their impacts
- Establishment of local communities of practice (COPs) in Valencia and Thessaloniki to strengthen cooperation between partners and pave the way for the future implementation of innovative value chains focusing on renewable fuels
