The 4th IWA-YWP Spain National Conference took place in Bilbao from October 29th to 31st, bringing together young water professionals from across Spain to share their latest research and innovations.
Ruben Hervas Martinez and Jaume Cotolí Sancho from Global Omnium, a key partner in the POSEIDON Project, presented the project’s advancements during the conference. Global Omnium plays a crucial role in the project by evaluating the “e-methanol as fuel for shipping” value chain implementation in the port of Valencia. They provide technical data on biogas generation and treatment from wastewater treatment plants, identify barriers and bottlenecks for deploying the novel power-to-e-methanol technology developed by partner ICODOS, and perform pre-engineering studies for integrating power-to-methanol at one WWTP.
In their presentations, Ruben and Jaume highlighted the POSEIDON Project’s objectives and progress, emphasizing its impact as a very promising and disruptive solution for biogas valorisation and the use of the e-methanol produced from this valorisation on the maritime industry. He also discussed the results of two other projects, AVI Biometano and IVACE Valdigest, which focus on combining nature-based solutions with anoxic reactors for biological purification of biogas.
The conference featured high-level presentations and posters, creating an exceptional atmosphere over the three days. The organizers, YWP Spain, were commended for their efforts in making the event engaging and insightful, providing a vibrant environment for knowledge exchange.
