The POSEIDON project recently had the privilege of participating in a significant cluster meeting organized by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). This event, held in Brussels on October 15, 2024, brought together project leaders of ongoing Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Actions (RIA), Innovation Actions (IA), and Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) projects, all focused on the development of renewable fuels in the transport sector.
Event overview
The cluster meeting gathered representatives from 36 projects addressing multiple aspects of alternative fuels for aviation, maritime, and biomethane. They presented their projects and shared their objectives and status with the assembly. The primary objectives of this workshop were to provide updates on key European Commission R&I policy developments, identify synergies, foster collaborations, and plan joint communication and dissemination activities.
Key sessions and discussions
The workshop was structured into two main parts:
- Morning session: Participants shared insights about their projects around the posters. This session included discussions on project-specific topics, such as implementation strategies, scaling up efforts, and overcoming challenges. Representatives from various projects shared their experiences and best practices, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Afternoon session: Presentations focused on policy developments and the pathway from Horizon Europe to the Innovation Fund. This session highlighted the transition from Horizon Europe projects to the Innovation Fund, showcasing successful case studies and providing guidance on leveraging these opportunities for future advancements. Participants also received crucial updates on the latest policy frameworks impacting the aviation, maritime fuels, and biomethane sectors, engaging in insightful discussions about the implications of these policies on their respective projects.
Engagement and collaboration at the CINEA Cluster Meeting
During the event, a representative of EIFER for the POSEIDON project, actively participated in discussions, sharing insights and exploring potential collaborations with other EU-funded initiatives. They highlighted the project’s progress in developing sustainable maritime fuels and discussed the latest regulatory frameworks. One key takeaway was identifying potential synergies with other projects, opening paths for joint actions and collaborative efforts. The POSEIDON team is excited about working closely with other projects to drive innovation and sustainability in the renewable fuels sector.
Looking ahead
The POSEIDON project team is committed to leveraging the insights and connections gained from this cluster meeting to further its mission of developing sustainable maritime fuels. The team looks forward to continued collaboration with CINEA and other Horizon Europe projects, contributing to the advancement of renewable energy solutions and the achievement of Europe’s climate goals.
