Poseidon project workshop: Advancing e-methanol solutions in Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, Greece – The Poseidon Project continues to make waves in the maritime industry with its innovative approach to transforming unwanted CO2 emissions into valuable marine e-fuel. On February 4th, the Poseidon Community of Practice gathered for a highly successful workshop, despite the busy conference season across Europe.

Event Highlights:

Organized by project partners ThPA and AUTH, the agenda featured a presentation of the case study of Thessaloniki and the implementation scenarios. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from the entire supply chain, including representatives from the shipping and port sectors, certification and accreditation bodies, fuel providers, plant operators, policy makers, researchers, consultants, and project managers of innovative solutions. The presence of unions and logistics operators added further depth to the insightful discussions.

Project partners CERTH and CaO Hellas presented various scenarios of the POSEIDON case study of Thessaloniki and the implementation scenarios, gathering valuable feedback from the attendees. The collaborative spirit and active participation highlighted the community’s dedication to the Poseidon Project’s mission.

Key Discussion Points:

The workshop fostered a positive and collaborative atmosphere, with participants keen to understand the certification process for low carbon e-methanol and explore safe transport and storage solutions within the urban area of ThPA. The discussions also underscored the potential for alternative fuels in Thessaloniki’s maritime sector, with Greek COP members showing enthusiasm to actively engage in the value chain assessment process. This dedication highlights the community’s commitment to co-creating a comprehensive and safe approach.

The workshop posed a challenging question: “Can Thessaloniki become an e-methanol hub?” The enthusiastic participation and expertise of the Community of Practice members suggest a promising path forward. A huge “Thank you!” to everyone who joined us on our “MeOH-vement.” This platform allows participants to actively contribute their knowledge and expertise to help advance the POSEIDON Project’s mission of demonstrating the use of synthetic methanol for the decarbonization of the shipping sector. Your knowledge and expertise help us move forward! 🚀

Special thanks to Eirini Tserga from ThPA and Nikoletta Bouloti from AUTH for organizing this insightful workshop! 👏
